About Me

Ruba is the author of the poetry pamphlet ‘Paths and Passageways’ (Albion Beatnik Press, 2018). Her writings appeared in publications across the UK, North American and Arab world including The Laurel Review, Sukoon, Squalorly, Noah, The Rusty Nail, Inkapture, On the Premises, Thresholds and Wales Arts Review. She is the recipient of the Writers and Artists Historical Fiction Competition (2014) for her short story “The Sirocco Winds”.

Ruba has translated work by critically acclaimed poets from the Arab world and the UK, including Adnan al-Sayegh and Jenny Lewis: Let Me Tell You What I saw - by Adnan al-Sayegh, translated by Ruba Abughaida and Jenny Lewis (Seren Books, 2020), Even at the Edge of the World by Jenny Lewis translated by Ruba Abughaida and others (Dar Sutour and Dar Al Rafdain, 2018), Who Can Climb the Sky: A cross-cultural theatre piece in English and Arabic performed by Jenny Lewis and Adnan Al Sayegh, translated by Ruba Abughaida and others (Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, 2016), Taking Mesopotamia by Jenny Lewis translated by Ruba Abughaida (Oxford Poets/Cancarnet 2014); and Singing for Inanna by Jenny Lewis, translated by Ruba Abughaida (Mulfran Press, 2014).

Born in London and raised in Kuwait and Cyprus, Ruba received her undergraduate degree in Canada followed by an undergraduate diploma in Creative Writing from Oxford University, an Mst in Creative Writing from Cambridge University and an MA in Near and Middle Eastern Studies from SOAS University.
